CrimeWatch report for Sunday 11th December
Lately I have seen a couple of warnings in the press but here we have a first-hand experience. When using your remote to lock your vehicle make sure you have actually locked it. Happily Helen did just that.
FROM: Helen McIlleron. 270 Main Road, St James.
A warning for people who lock their cars using a remote. I park my car on Main Road on the border between Muizenberg and St James (opposite Monsouri). Yesterday morning (Sat 10 Dec) I loaded some bags of recycling trash into my car and tried to lock it before returning to my house. Luckily I realized that the car was not responding to the remote; no doors were locking with repeated attempts to lock them using the remote. I then realized that there was a guy walking along the pavement towards Muizenberg with his hands in deep pockets. There was no one else around. I realized he had been passing close to my car when I first tried to lock it. When he was about 25 m down the road I was eventually able to lock my car with the remote. I suspect this guy was jamming my remote. I hear this is a popular method for stealing cars at the moment.
Worse still, I believe insurance companies are loath to pay out where there has been no forced entry!
