CrimeWatch report for Tuesday 22nd November

There is an ongoing spate of car thefts and car break-ins in our area as well as Clovelly and Fish Hoek valley. Residents should be aware and take all precautions possible. Not easy, I know, in most cases where one is forced to leave one’s car on the street. The best advice is simple. Leave nothing in your car. Old sunglasses may not have a value to you but they could easily cost you the price of a new side window! Big yellow wheel clamps seem to discourage all but the most determined car thieves. Compared to the cost of replacing a car the price of a wheel clamp is negligible.

On a different subject altogether; there is a growing tendency to enter a crime report into a Comments box. Please, dear residents, do not do this. The only way I will see a report immediately is to send it directly to my email address (don@onlineresearch.co.za). Reports left in a Comments box may not be seen by me for days. Besides, that is not how a blog works. Comments should be relevant to the report to which they are appended. Reports are new information about crimes recently committed and should be treated as urgent.

Right, now I’ve my little whine, on with CrimeWatch . . .

FROM: Jane Smith. 52 Upper Quarterdeck Road, St James.

Our newspaper delivery man, Fanie, had his car stolen while delivering the Cape Times in St James on Thursday. It was a very old, unpredictable car, but made Fanie’s deliveries a lot easier, so it’s a significant loss for him.
And if anyone has an old car lying about that they don’t need any more, Fanie would be most receptive, I’m sure!

We have a young couple from Germany staying with us at the moment and their car window was smashed last night. There was nothing in the car to be stolen. It’s a hired car so they are able to swop, but it’s inconvenient, and not very nice for them. Seems that breaking into cars is happening quite a lot…
