CrimeWatch report for Sunday 16th October

This was sent to me by a woman who lives outside our area but who visits often.

On Friday evening (14 Oct) I was returning to my car parked outside the mosque in Quartedeck Road at about 10pm. I had already got into my car and was just about to start driving away when I saw this pretend car guard, wearing a scruffy green bib, rush up to my car from the Gatesville Road end of the park. I shook my head to indicate I had nothing for him so he started shouting and kicked my car. I wound down my window to shout back. He said he had to be paid for “looking after” my car (when he had been nowhere around and, anyway, I had not wanted him to). There was a stand-off for a while and then I decided to drive on as I didn’t know whether he had anything on him (eg knife) and I would have been at a disadvantage had I tried to get out of my car. I was sitting and he was right at my door.

The man was “coloured”, thin, in his 20s, “hekkies” teeth (missing the top middle teeth), taller than 1.7m, wearing a grey-black beanie and English-speaking, which could describe just about anyone. Perhaps local residents ought to be aware of this fellow.

FROM: Delene Burman. Westray Steps, St James.

Wednesday 12 October 2011 at about 3.40 pm copper was stolen from 18 St James Road cottage. No one saw the thief but I think he had medium size black dog with him.

I also experienced the “pretend car guard” at 11.30pm somewhere in the 2nd half of October. It is indeed Mad Mario from the photos. I was coming home from work and found him waiting for me to get out my car after parking in Gatesville Rd, so I drove off and parked in Duignam Rd, which is in itself rather unnerving, with all that goes on there. Once safely (but rather shakenly) in my house I called Mountain Men and asked them to move him. This happened twice. A few evenings later, coming home from work again, I spoke to the Chartfield guard who said he had chased Mario away.
Mario really does need to be removed from our area permanently. As mentioned before, he has a very short fuse and seems to feel entitled to what we may or may not have to offer. A thoroughly unpleasant character.
